1952 Chevy

This project started as a job for one of the insurance companys here in Sweden, some old lady bumped in to the rear quarter panel of the Chevy while the owner was getting gas!!...

The damage wasn't that bad and it all seemed to be a pretty easy job, just get the dent out and get the new paint to match the old red metallic on the rest of the body... Sometimes a little tricky but usually not that big of a deal!!!

So, after talking to the insurance company and the owner I started by taking the trim off and got ready to deal with the dent!!!

The actual damage was an easy fix, no problem... The thing that wasn't all that funny was that while getting the dent out parts of the body panel fell of!!... It was all bondo, and under that rust and half ass home made and spotwelded patch panels!!

Together with the owner We decided to do some fast and cheap panels just to have some metal under the new bondo that We had to put back on there!!... To do a good and serious job was out of the question!!!

So, a fast, cheap and half good patching was made and the damaged rear fender was almost ready to paint!!!

After all the damage was taken care of the new paint was sprayed on... Of course it didn't match!!! After trying a couple of times without any good results a sample from the car was sent to a colour laboratory for analysing, what they found out was that in the red paint on the car it was 4 different kinds of metallic!!!

Once upon a time someone probably painted the car and used whatever was left in a lot of different cans of metallic red paint!!... The result was a home mixed one of a kind paint that was impossible to mix again...

Since We couldn't paint just that part of the car and get the result to look even decent the insurance company didn't see any other solution then to pay for painting the whole care!!!

At least the owner was happy... The old paintjob was everything but good!!!!

As always things aren't that easy!!... After taking all the doorhandles, trim etc. off and started sanding the old paint down We discoverd a lot of bondo, rust and old patcings all over the car...

Besides all that the whole body was brown of rust under the old black original paint!! The owner relized that there was nothing else that could be done than try to fix all the rust the fast and cheap way, and get the new paint on as fast as possible!!!

While I did what I could about the rust, got the filler primer and some marker coulor for the blocking on, He started making plans to sell it and find something new!!...

After blocking the body down it was finally ready for a couple of coats of primer and some nice red pearl... Considering what shape the car was in when it got here and we started fixing the damaged quarter panel, it ended up being a very nice -52 Chevy!!

The owner kept it for two years I think, but after that He ended up selling it!!
